Huacaya Alpacas for Sale
Huacaya alpacas are the most common alpaca type and are recognized for their dense, crimped fleece.
Their fleece is valued by fiber enthusiasts for its softness, fineness, density, and crimp.
Our Huacaya alpacas may be offered as companion animals, fiber stock, or registered breeding animals depending on the individual.
Suri Alpacas for Sale
Suri alpacas are distinguished by their distinctive fleece, which grows in long, draping locks often described as pencil locks.
Suri fiber has a different appearance and characteristics from Huacaya fleece, making Suri alpacas especially interesting to fiber enthusiasts and breeders.
Available Suri Alpacas
Companion, Fiber & Breeding Alpacas
Not every alpaca buyer has the same goal.
That’s why we may offer alpacas for several different purposes.
Companion Alpacas
Alpacas can be fascinating additions to a hobby farm or small livestock operation.
They are social herd animals and require appropriate companionship, fencing, shelter, nutrition, veterinary care, and routine maintenance.
We do not sell alpacas as solitary animals to destinations where there is no existing compatible alpaca herd.
Fiber Alpacas
For fiber enthusiasts, the fleece itself is an important consideration.
Depending on the animal, buyers may be interested in:
- Fiber density
- Fineness
- Crimp
- Lock structure
- Fleece color
- Uniformity
- Staple characteristics
- Pedigree
- Production history
Our alpacas receive annual professional shearing and appropriate fleece care.
Registered Breeding Alpacas
For breeding buyers, we look beyond appearance alone.
Important considerations include:
- Pedigree
- Conformation
- Genetic health
- Fiber characteristics
- Reproductive soundness
- Color genetics
- Lineage
- Temperament
- Overall herd health
Eligible breeding stock is registered with the appropriate alpaca registry.
No Micro, Teacup, or Miniature Alpacas
We do not sell or market “micro,” “teacup,” or “miniature” alpacas.
These marketing terms are not part of recognized alpaca breed standards or registration categories.
Our focus is on properly bred alpacas with correct conformation, appropriate size, genetic health, quality fiber, and sound structure.
We believe buyers are better served by selecting a healthy, well-conformed alpaca than by chasing an artificially small animal.
Why Choose Our Alpacas?
Buying an alpaca is a long-term commitment.
We want buyers to have meaningful information about the animal they are purchasing and the herd from which it comes.
Our alpaca program emphasizes:
- Huacaya and Suri alpacas
- Responsible breeding
- Genetic health
- Disease screening
- Quality fiber
- Appropriate conformation
- Herd behavior
- Regular veterinary care
- Professional annual shearing
- Routine foot care
- Targeted parasite control
- Early but appropriate cria handling
- Registration for eligible breeding stock
- Transportation planning
- Sales documentation
Our goal is to match each alpaca with the right home rather than simply make a sale.
How We Care for Our Alpacas
Our alpaca health program begins with routine preventive care and continues through breeding, cria management, parasite control, shearing, and veterinary oversight.
Alpaca Vaccinations
Our vaccination program includes CD&T, protecting against Clostridium perfringens types C and D and tetanus.
Adult alpacas receive an annual booster, generally timed 30–60 days before anticipated unassisted birthing when appropriate.
Crias generally receive their first CD&T vaccination at approximately 8–12 weeks, followed by a booster approximately four weeks later.
Rabies vaccination may also be administered annually in areas where terrestrial rabies presents an appropriate risk and where recommended by our veterinarian.
Vaccination schedules can be adjusted based on veterinary recommendations, regional disease risk, and individual circumstances.

Meningeal Worm Prevention
In regions where white-tailed deer are present, meningeal worm (Parelaphostrongylus tenuis) is an important health consideration for alpacas.
Our veterinary-directed parasite program may include seasonal preventive treatment during the period of transmission risk, generally extending from spring through the first hard freeze.
Medication and timing are determined as appropriate for the herd and veterinary recommendations.
Alpaca Parasite Control
We avoid unnecessary routine calendar deworming.
Instead, parasite control is based on:
- Clinical condition
- Fecal testing
- Body condition
- Anemia or other clinical signs
- Herd conditions
- Veterinary recommendations
Potential deworming medications may include products such as levamisole, fenbendazole, or moxidectin when appropriate.
The goal is to treat animals that need treatment while reducing unnecessary medication use and helping slow the development of drug resistance.
Fecal Testing
We perform fecal testing approximately twice a year, or more frequently when indicated.
Testing can help screen for:
- Gastrointestinal parasites
- Coccidia
- Eimeria macusaniensis (E. mac)
- Other parasite concerns
Sick, anemic, or otherwise concerning animals may receive additional diagnostic testing.
Pasture & Manure Management
Good pasture management is an important part of parasite prevention.
Our management practices include:
- Daily manure removal from paddock dung piles
- Pasture rotation
- Elevated hay and feed stations
- Clean feeding areas
- Appropriate pasture management
Keeping feed and hay off the ground also helps reduce contamination.
Alpaca Shearing & Fiber Care
Alpacas need regular shearing to maintain their health and comfort.
We schedule professional shearing annually in the spring, generally around April–May, to remove the heavy fleece before the hottest part of the year.
Annual shearing helps reduce the risk of excessive heat stress and allows the fleece to be harvested at the appropriate time.
Fleece Preparation
Fleece receives appropriate preparation before and after shearing.
Our fiber-care practices include:
- Blowing out fleece with cold air before shearing
- Removing vegetable matter where practical
- Skirting fleeces
- Blanket grading
- Separating appropriate fiber
- Keeping the tail and breech area appropriately trimmed
Fiber quality can vary significantly between individual alpacas, so buyers interested in production animals should ask about the specific animal’s fleece characteristics.
Alpaca Foot & Toenail Care
Routine foot care is part of our alpaca management program.
Toenails are generally trimmed approximately every 2–3 months, depending on the individual animal and natural wear.
We aim to maintain properly shaped feet and avoid excessive toenail growth.
Paddock design can also contribute to natural wear, including the use of appropriate gravel or gravel-pad areas around feeding stations.
Cria Handling & Socialization
Young alpacas require thoughtful handling.
We use gentle, purposeful handling rather than treating crias like house pets.
Early handling may include necessary care such as:
- Weighing
- Navel care
- Health checks
- Appropriate restraint
- Basic handling
- Later halter training
The goal is to produce alpacas that can be safely managed while preserving normal herd behavior.
Bottle-Fed Crias
When maternal milk is insufficient, supplemental feeding may be necessary.
Bottle-fed crias may receive fresh alpaca or goat milk or an appropriate equine milk replacer according to the individual situation and veterinary guidance.
Bottle-fed crias remain with other alpacas whenever possible.
We do not intentionally isolate bottle babies with humans or raise them as substitute household pets.
Maintaining normal alpaca social relationships is important for appropriate adult behavior.
Halter Training
Gentle halter desensitization and basic leading generally begin around 4–6 months of age, typically after weaning.
Training is gradual and focused on calm, appropriate handling.
Veterinary & Reproductive Care
Our alpaca herd receives routine veterinary oversight.
Herd-health management includes:
- Biannual herd health reviews
- Body condition scoring
- Weight monitoring
- Teeth inspection
- Male fighting-tooth evaluation and trimming when needed
- Reproductive monitoring
- Pregnancy management
- Veterinary care when illness or injury occurs
Alpaca Breeding Program
Breeding decisions are made based on the overall quality and health of the animal.
Females may be considered for breeding at approximately 12–18 months of age, depending on development and body weight.
We look for appropriate maturity and a target of approximately 65% or more of mature adult body weight before breeding.
Pregnancy and reproductive status are monitored using appropriate behavioral and veterinary methods.
Induced ovulation is considered when appropriate, with breeding response evaluated through methods such as spit-offs and progesterone testing.
Alpaca Health & Genetic Testing
Disease prevention and genetic health are important parts of our breeding program.
BVDV Screening
We perform annual blood testing for Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) using PCR-based screening to identify persistently infected animals.
Our goal is to maintain a BVDV-clear herd.
BVDV can have significant reproductive and health consequences, making herd-level screening an important part of our biosecurity program.
Johne’s Disease & TB
Our health-testing program also includes periodic screening for Johne’s disease and tuberculosis, as appropriate.
Testing schedules may vary based on veterinary recommendations, herd circumstances, and applicable requirements.
Genetic Testing
Genetic testing may include:
- Color genotype testing
- Lineage verification
- Genetic information used for breeding selection
Genetic information can help us make more informed breeding decisions rather than selecting animals based solely on appearance.
Alpaca Registration
Eligible breeding stock is registered with the Alpaca Owners Association (AOA).
AOA is the current organization associated with the registry formerly known as ARI.
When applicable, buyers receive the appropriate registration documentation and transfer paperwork after completion of the sale.
Registration status is provided for each eligible animal.
How Much Does an Alpaca Cost?

Factors can include:
- Huacaya or Suri
- Age
- Sex
- Color

What Are Alpacas Like?
Alpacas are intelligent, social herd animals with unique behaviors and relatively manageable livestock needs when properly cared for.
They are generally quieter than many other farm animals, but they still require appropriate space, fencing, shelter, nutrition, veterinary care, shearing, and companionship.
Alpacas communicate through body language and a variety of vocalizations, including their characteristic humming.
They are not intended to be solitary pets.
Do Alpacas Make Good Pets?
Alpacas can be excellent companion livestock for the right owner.
However, they should be treated as livestock rather than oversized house pets.
They need:
- Alpaca companionship
- Secure fencing
- Appropriate shelter
- Clean water
- Proper nutrition
- Mineral supplementation
- Routine parasite monitoring
- Annual shearing
- Toenail care
- Veterinary care
If you are looking for a single animal to keep by itself, an alpaca may not be the right choice.
We do not sell alpacas as solitary animals without an existing compatible herd at the destination.
Huacaya vs. Suri Alpacas
If you’re new to alpacas, one of the first decisions is whether you’re interested in Huacaya or Suri.
Huacaya
Huacaya fleece is dense and crimped.
They are often the type people picture when they think of a traditional fluffy alpaca.
Suri
Suri fleece grows in distinctive draping locks.
Their fiber has a different appearance and processing characteristics from Huacaya fleece.
Neither type is inherently the “better” alpaca.
The right choice depends on your goals, whether you’re interested in companionship, fiber production, breeding, or a combination.
Caring for an Alpaca
Before purchasing an alpaca, make sure your property is prepared.
Shelter
Alpacas need access to appropriate shelter from severe weather, wind, rain, and heat.
Fencing
Secure fencing is essential.
Fencing should prevent escapes while minimizing the risk of injury.
Water
Clean, fresh water should always be available.
Nutrition
Alpacas require an appropriate diet based on quality forage and carefully selected supplementation.
Overfeeding is not a substitute for proper nutrition.
Minerals
Mineral requirements depend on the animal, forage, soil conditions, and geographic location.
Work with your veterinarian or qualified livestock nutrition professional to establish an appropriate program.
Shearing
Plan for professional annual shearing, generally in the spring.
Foot Care
Expect routine toenail trimming approximately every 2–3 months, depending on the individual.
Companionship
Alpacas are herd animals.
Plan for an appropriate group rather than keeping a single alpaca alone.
